Walking the Walk

Putting on the New Man

By R.P. Woitowitz Sr.

Ephesians 4:24

And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.”

I need to start this off by saying that the inspiration for this piece came from the pastor of the Reidland Methodist Church, who in turn was inspired by the Holy Spirit of God.

How often do we see ourselves in the mirror on Sunday morning and know that we are Christians and yet on the next day we are of the world.  Come on everyone let us raise our hands, I know I have often enough done just that and I am certain many of us do it.  And yet we call ourselves Christians. But do we act it in our daily lives?

I know we have all heard the term walk the walk and not just talk the talk, but do we really do that each day?  Again I know I haven’t and I also understand that it is not always easy to do just day everyday, but that does not mean that I shouldn’t try.

I realize that the mission fields of the world are very important for God Himself has proclaimed and ordained each of us to spread the Gospel in ALL parts of the world.  But for many of us that particular calling of going abroad, or going door to door is just not something that we can do.  Certainly there are other ministries that one can find his nitch.

But it is not just in church or the mission fields that we need to show others that we do INDEED walk the walk.  It is in the world that we need to prove ourselves as Christians each day for the eyes of the world watch us all the time.  They look to see, (and sometimes I think they hope to see) us stumble or come into a situation that will test our faith and beliefs.

This is why each of us needs to remind ourselves daily as to who and what we are.   This serves a two-fold purpose.  One is to show to others that we are what we claim to be; that being Christians. The second serves as a possible means to bring someone else to the Lord.

Look, just a simple action as praying over one’s food in a public place may in turn cause someone to think about going to church, to coming to Jesus.

Now one may wonder am I doing this to please man or God. Certainly not! But it is my view that all that we do that is good is pleasing to our Creator. The Apostle Paul put it so very well in Philippians 4:8 wherein he tells us to think on all good things. How much better would it be if we not only meditate on them but include and put into practicing them in our daily lives?
