121 I have executed judgment and justice: leave me
not to mine oppressor.
122 Answer for thy servant in that which is good,
and let not the proud oppress me. (a)
123 Mine eyes have failed in waiting for thy salvation,
and for thy just promise.
124 Deal with thy servant according to thy mercy,
and teach me thy statutes.
125 I am thy servant: grant me therefore understanding,
that I may know thy testimonies.
126 It is time for thee, Lord, to work: for they have
destroyed thy Law.
127 Therefore love I thy commandments above
gold, yea, above most fine gold. (b)
128 Therefore I esteem all thy precepts most just,
and hate all false ways
(a) Verse 122

And more to be desired than gold, yea, than
much fine gold: sweeter also than honey, and the
honeycomb.
Matthew 13:44 - 46
44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto
a treasure hid in the field, which when a man hath
found, he hideth it, and for joy thereof departeth, and
selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like to a
merchant man that seeketh good pearls,
46 Who having found a pearl of great price, went
and sold all that he had and bought it.
Matthew 19:21
Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect,
go, sell that thou hast, and give it to the poor, and
thou shalt have treasure in heaven, and come, and
follow me.

114 Thou art my refuge and shield, and I trust in
thy word. (b)
115 Away from me, ye wicked: for I will keep the
commandments of my God. (c)
116 Stablish me according to thy promise, that I
may live, and disappoint me not of mine hope.

delight continually in thy statutes.
118 Thou hast trodden down all them that depart
from thy statutes: for their deceit is vain.
119 Thou hast taken away all the wicked of the
earth like dross: therefore I love thy testimonies.
120 My flesh trembleth for fear of thee, and I am
afraid of thy judgments.

14 Stand therefore, and your loins girded about
with verity, and having on the breastplate of righteousness,
15 And your feet shod with the preparation of
the Gospel of peace.
16 Above all, take the shield of Faith, wherewith
ye may quench all the fiery darts of the wicked,
17 And take the helmet of Salvation, and the
sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.

105 Thy word is a lantern unto my feet, and a light
unto my paths. (a)
106 I have 1sworn and will perform it, that I will
keep thy righteous judgments.

not forget thy law.

forever, and of them that offer the sacrifice of praise in
the house of the Lord, for I will cause to return the
captivity of the land, as at the first, saith the Lord.

1Let us therefore by him offer the sacrifice of
praise always to God, that is, the hfruit of the lips,

For thou, O God, hast heard my desires; thou hast
given an heritage unto those that fear thy Name.
Isaiah 54:17
But all the weapons that are made against
thee, shall not prosper: and every tongue that shall
rise against thee in judgment, thou shalt condemn.
This is the heritage of the Lord’s servants, and their

97 Oh how love I thy law! it is my meditation
continually.
98 By thy commandments thou hast made me wiser
than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.
99 I have had more understanding than all my
teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation. (a)
100 I understood more than the ancient, because
I kept thy precepts.
101 I have refrained my feet from every evil way,
that I might keep thy word. (b)
102 I have not declined from thy judgments: for
thou didst teach me.
103 How sweet are thy promises unto my mouth!
yea, more than honey unto my mouth.

therefore I hate all the ways of falsehood.

89 O Lord, thy word endureth forever in heaven. (a)
90 Thy truth is from generation to generation:
thou hast laid the foundation of the earth, and it
abideth.
91 They 1continue even to this day by thine ordinances:
for all are thy servants.
92 Except thy law had been my delight, I should
now have perished in mine affliction.
93 I will never forget thy precepts: for by them
thou hast quickened me.
94 I am thine, save me: for I have sought thy
precepts.
95 The wicked have waited for me to destroy me:
but I will consider thy testimonies.
96 I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy
commandment is exceeding large. (b)

words shall not pass away.

perish, one jot or one tittle of the Law shall not
escape, till all things be fulfilled.

81 My soul fainted for thy salvation: yet I wait
for thy word. (a)
82 Mine eyes fail for thy promise, saying, When
wilt thou comfort me?
83 For I am like a bottle in the smoke; yet do I
not forget thy statutes.
84 How many are the days of thy servant? When
wilt thou execute judgment on them that persecute
me? (b)
85 The proud have dug pits for me, which is not
after thy Law. (c)
86 All thy commandments are true: they persecute
me falsely: help me.
87 They had almost consumed me upon the earth:
but I forsook not thy precepts.
88 Quicken me according to thy loving kindness:

(a) Verse 81
Psalm 73:24 - 26
24 Thou wilt guide me by thy counsel, and afterward
receive me to glory.
25 Whom have I in heaven but thee? and I have
desired none in the earth with thee.
26 My flesh faileth and mine heart also: but God is
the strength of mine heart, and my 1portion forever.
Psalm 84:2
My soul longeth, yea, and fainted for the 1courts
of the Lord: for my heart and my flesh rejoice in the
living God.
Isaiah 40:30 - 31
30 1Even the young men shall faint, and be weary,
and the young men shall stumble and fall.
31 But they that wait upon the Lord, shall renew
their strength: they shall lift up the wings, as the
eagles: they shall run, and not be weary, and they
shall walk and not faint.
Matthew 15:32
Then Jesus called his disciples unto him, and
said, I have compassion on this multitude, because
they have continued with me already three days, and
have nothing to eat: and I will not let them depart
fasting, lest they faint in the way.
Luke 18:1
And he spake also a parable unto them, to this
end, that they ought always to pray, and not to wax
faint,
2 Corinthians 4:1
Therefore, seeing that we have this ministry,
as we have received mercy, we faint not:

(b) Verse 84
Job 14:14, 16
14 If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of
mine appointed time will I wait, till 1my changing
shall come.
16 But now thou numberest my steps, and doest
not delay my sins
Job 29:18
Then I said, I shall die in my 1nest, and I shall
multiply my days as the sand.
Psalm 39:4
Lord, let me know mine end, and the measure
of my days, what it is: let me know how long I have
to live.
Revelations 6:10
And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How
long, Lord, which art holy and true! dost not thou
judge and avenge our blood on them, that dwell on
the earth? And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How
long, Lord, which art holy and true! dost not thou
judge and avenge our blood on them, that dwell on
the earth?
Zechariah 1:12 - 13
12 Then the 1Angel of the Lord answered and said,
O Lord of hosts, how long wilt thou be unmerciful
to Jerusalem, and to the cities of Judah, with whom
thou hast been displeased now these threescore and
ten years?
13 And the Lord answered the Angel that talked
with me, with good words and comfortable words.
(c) Verse 85
Psalm 35:7
For without cause they have hid the pit and
their net for me: without cause have they dug a pit
for my soul
Proverbs 16:27
27 A wicked man diggeth up evil, and in his lips
is like burning fire
Jeremiah 18:18 - 22
Then said they, Come, and let us imagine some
device against Jeremiah: for the Law shall not perish
from the Priest, nor counsel from the wise, nor the
word from the Prophet: come, and let us smite him
with the 2tongue, and let us not give heed to any of
his words.
19 Hearken unto me, O Lord, and hear the voice
of them that contend with me.
20 Shall evil be recompensed for good? for they
have dug a pit for my soul: remember that I stood
before thee, to speak good for them, and to turn
away thy wrath from them.
21 Therefore, deliver up their children to famine,
and let them drop away by the force of the sword,
let their wives be robbed of their children, and be
widows: and let their husbands be put to death,
and let their young men be slain by the sword in
the battle.
22 Let the cry be heard from their houses, when
thou shalt bring an host suddenly upon them: for
they have dug a pit to take me, and hid snares for
my feet.

73 Thine hands have made me and fashioned me:
give me understanding therefore, that I may learn thy
commandments. (a)
74 So they that fear thee, seeing me, shall rejoice,
because I have trusted in thy word.
75 I know, O Lord, that thy judgments are right,
and that thou hast afflicted me justly.
76 I pray thee that thy mercy may comfort me,
according to thy promise unto thy servant. (b)
77 Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I
may live: for thy Law is my delight.
78 Let the proud be ashamed: for they have dealt
wickedly and falsely with me: but I meditate in thy
precepts.
79 Let such as fear thee Turn unto me, and they
that know thy testimonies. (c)
80 Let mine heart be upright in thy statutes, that
I be not ashamed.

(a) Verse 73
Job 10:8 - 9

thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which
thou hast showed unto me in saving my life: and I
cannot escape in the mountain, lest some evil take
me, and I die.
20 See now this city hereby to flee unto, which
is a little one: Oh let me escape thither: is it not a
little one, and my soul shall live?
21 Then he said unto him, Behold, I have received
thy request also concerning this thing, that I will
not overthrow this city, for the which thou hast
spoken.
2 Corinthians 1:3 - 4
3 Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord
Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of
all comfort,
4 Which comforteth us in all our tribulation,
that we may be able to comfort them which are in
any affliction by the comfort wherewith we ourselves
are comforted of God.

(c) Verse 79

65 O Lord, thou hast dealt graciously with thy
servant, according unto thy word.
66 Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for
I have believed thy commandments. (a)
67 Before I was afflicted, I went astray: but now
I keep thy word. (b)
68 Thou art good and gracious: teach me thy
statutes. (c)
69 The proud have imagined a lie against me: but
I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart. (d)
70 Their heart is fat as grease, but my delight is
in thy Law.
71 It is good for me that I have been afflicted,
that I may learn thy statutes.
72 The Law of thy mouth is better unto me, than
thousands of gold and silver (e)

(a) Verse 66
Philippians 1:9 - 10

day of Christ,

him that is destitute of wisdom, she saith,
5 Come, and eat of my 1meat, and drink of the
wine that I have drawn.
6 Forsake your way, ye foolish, and ye shall live:
and walk in the way of understanding.
7 He that reproveth a scorner, purchaseth to
himself shame: and he that rebuketh the wicked,
getteth himself a blot.
8 Rebuke not a scorner, lest he hate thee: but
rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
9 Give admonition to the wise, and he will be the
wiser: teach a righteous man, and he will increase in
learning.

(b) Verse 67
Jeremiah 31:18 - 19
18 I have heard 1Ephraim lamenting thus, Thou
hast corrected me, and I was chastised as an 2untamed
calf: 3convert thou me, and I shall be converted: for
thou art the Lord my God.
19 Surely after that I was converted, I repented, and
after that I was instructed, I smote upon my 1thigh:
I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did
bear the reproach of my youth.
Job 5:17 - 19
17 Behold, blessed is the man whom God correcteth:
therefore refuse not thou the chastising of
the Almighty.

19 He shall deliver thee in six troubles, and in
the seventh the evil shall not touch thee.

2 For the mouth of the wicked, and the mouth
full of deceit are opened upon me: they have spoken
to me with a lying tongue.

4 For my friendship they were my adversaries,
but I gave myself to prayer.
5 And they have rewarded me evil for good

(e) Verse 72
Psalm 19:7 - 11
none is hid from the heat thereof.

soul: the testimony of the Lord is sure, and giveth
wisdom unto the simple.
8 The statutes of the Lord are right, and rejoice
the heart, the commandment of the Lord is pure,
and giveth light unto the eyes.
9 The fear of the Lord is clean, and endureth
forever: the judgments of the Lord are truth: they
are righteous altogether,

Because David did that which was right in the
sight of the Lord, and turned from nothing that he
commanded him all the days of his life, save only
in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

(c) Verse 52
Psalm 77:11 - 14
11 I remembered the works of the Lord: certainly
I remembered thy wonders of old.
12 I did also meditate all thy works, and did devise
of thine acts, saying,
13 Thy way, O God, is in the Sanctuary: who is
so great a God, as our God!
14 Thou art the God that doest wonders; thou
hast declared thy power among the people.
Isaiah 46:8 - 9
his tribulation.
8 Remember this, and be ashamed: bring it again
to mind, O you transgressors.
9 Remember the former things of old: for I am
God, and there is none other God, and there is
nothing like me

Psalm 63:6
When I remember thee on my bed, and when
I think upon thee in the night watches

41 And let thy loving 1kindness come unto me, O
Lord, and thy salvation according to thy promise.
42 So shall I make answer unto my blasphemers:
for I trust in thy word.
43 And take not the word of truth utterly out of
my mouth: for I wait for thy judgments.
44 So shall I always keep thy Law forever and ever.
45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy
precepts.
46 I will speak also of thy testimonies before
Kings, and will not be ashamed. (a)
47 And my delight shall be in thy Commandments,
which I have loved.
48 Mine hands also will I lift up unto thy Commandments,
which I have loved, and I will meditate
in thy statutes. (b)

(a) Verse 46
Matthew 10:18 - 20
18 And ye shall be brought to the governors and
kings for my sake, in witness to them, and to the
Gentiles.
19 But when they deliver you up, take no thought
how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you
in that hour, what ye shall say.
20 For it is not ye that speak, but the spirit of your
Father which speaketh in you.
Matthew 27:11
11 And Jesus stood before the governor, and
the governor asked him, saying, Art thou that King
of the Jews? Jesus said unto him, Thou sayest it.
2Timothy 4:16 - 18
16 At my first answering no man assisted me, but
all forsook me: I pray God, that it may not be laid to
their charge.
17 Notwithstanding the Lord assisted me, and
strengthened me, that by me the preaching might
be fully believed, and that all the Gentiles should
hear: and I was delivered out of the mouth of the
lion.
18 And the Lord will deliver me from every 1evil
work, and will preserve me unto his heavenly kingdom:
to whom be praise for ever and ever, Amen.
(b) Verse 48
Psalm 28:2
2 Hear the voice of my petitions, when I cry unto
thee, when I hold up my hands toward thine 1holy
Oracle.
Psalm 63:4
4 Thus will I magnify thee all my life, and lift up
mine hands in thy Name.

33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes,
and I will keep it unto the end.
34 Give me understanding and I will keep thy
Law, yea, I will keep it with my whole heart. (a)
35 Direct me in the path of thy commandments:
for therein is my delight. (b)
36 Incline mine heart unto thy testimonies: and
not to covetousness.
37 Turn away mine eyes from regarding vanity,
and quicken me in thy way.
38 Stablish thy promise to thy servant, because
he feareth thee.
39 Take away my rebuke that I fear: for thy judgments
are good. (c)
40 Behold, I desire thy commandments: quicken
me in thy righteousness. (d)

(a) Verse 34
Jeremiah 31:33 - 34
with the house of Israel, After those days, saith the
Lord, I will put my law in their inward parts, and
write it in their hearts, and will be their God, and
they shall be my people.
34 And they shall teach no more every man his
neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know
the Lord: for they shall all know me from the least
of them unto the greatest of them, saith the Lord:
for I will forgive their iniquity, and will remember
their sins no more.
Hebrews 10:16 - 17
16 his is the Testament that I will make unto

Laws in their heart, and in their minds I will write
them.
17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember
no more.

(b) Verses 35 - 37
Proverbs 1:10, 15 - 16, 23
10 My son, if sinners do entice thee, consent
thou not.
15 My son, walk not thou in the way with them:
refrain thy foot from their path.
16 For their feet run to evil, and make haste to
shed blood.
23 (Turn you at my correction: lo, I will pour out
my mind unto you, and make you understand my
words.)
Psalm 139:10
10 Yet thither shall thine hand lead me, and thy
right hand hold me.

For thou art my rock and my fortress: therefore
for thy Name’s sake direct me and guide me.

(c) Verse 39

1 O Lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither
chastise me in thy wrath.
2 Have mercy upon me, O Lord, for I am weak:
O Lord heal me, for my bones are vexed
Proverbs 3:11 - 12
11 My son, refuse not the chastening of the
Lord, neither be grieved with his correction.
12 For the Lord correcteth him, whom he loveth,
even as the father doth the child, in whom he delighteth
Luke 17:3
3 Take heed to yourselves: if thy brother
trespass against thee, rebuke him: and if he repent,
forgive him.
Revelations 3:19 - 20
19 As many as I love, cI rebuke and chasten: be
zealous therefore and amend.
20 Behold, I stand at the door, and knock, If any
man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in
unto him, and will sup with him, and he with me.

(d) Verse 40
Editor’s thought - This dovetails into yesterdays commentary wherein the Psalmist is asking to be restored, to be (made by implication) whole in the full word of God
Psalm 139:23 - 24
23 Try me, O God, and know mine heart: prove
me and know my thoughts,
24 And consider if there be any way of wickedness
in me, and lead me in the way forever.

DALETH

25 My soul cleaveth to the dust: quicken me
according to thy word.
26 I have declared my ways, and thou heardest
me: teach me thy statutes.
27 Make me to understand the way of thy precepts,
and I will meditate in thy wondrous works.
28 My soul melteth for heaviness: raise me up
according to thy word.
29 Take from me the way of lying, and grant me
graciously thy Law.
30 I have chosen the way of truth, and thy judgments
have I laid before me.
31 I have cleaved to thy testimonies, O Lord:
confound me not.
32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when
thou shalt enlarge mine heart.

Editor’s thought - Normally I cite related scriptures as a connection to a particular verse or set of verses, but as I was reading this section, I found myself awed by it and I wondered to myself, was the Psalmist fearing for his salvation? Was he so burdened with guilt, or perhaps doubts, that he cried aloud to the Father to restore him?

In verse 25 he uses the analogy of clinging to the dust, that is perhaps to say that he is lower than any form of creation that God has made, or is he saying that he is headed for death? Yet he asks of God to “quicken” him, or as is used in the KJV to revive him.

In Strong’s Concordance one finds the word “chayah khaw-yaw' “ of which one of the translations reads; “to nourish up”. Another translation is; “ to repair” and yet another is; “be whole”. Moreover we find two definitions of the above word, as according to Webster’s Dictionary Editions circa 1828 and 1913 that state;

1. To make alive; to vivify; to revive or resuscitate, as from death or an inanimate state; hence, to excite; to, stimulate; to incite.
2.To come to life; to become alive; to become vivified or enlivened; hence, to exhibit signs of life; to move, as the fetus in the womb.

So one finds and concludes that the Psalmist is in need of being fed, fixed, and made complete in the Word of God. I can think of no other thing can one ask to be made complete than to be restored to God’s true image of what we should be and how we should live. Or to put it another way a “rebirth” into the light of God’s word.

In the next verse the Psalmist says he has declared his ways. I am not certain, but I feel that by declaring or confessing his shortcomings, his ways, he is making known that his ways are not GOD’s ways and that his thoughts are not God’s thoughts, as such he continues onward up to and including verse 29. Asking for God to grant him the knowledge of His word, so that he might be able to begin anew his walk, or as I like to say, pick him up , dust him of and start again. Herein we see a second plea for rebirth.

From verse 30 until the end, we find that the Psalmist is repenting of his failings, and has rededicated himself to walking in the way of righteousness and ends with the declaration of a renewed confidence by having God placing His word up the heart of the Psalmist. (see Jeremiah 31:33, Jeremiah 32:40, Hebrews 8:10, Hebrews 10:16)

In conclusion I have come away with the assurance that should we fall down, stumble and stray from the path that we need to go to our Heavenly Father, acknowledge our state of affairs, and seek forgiveness and ask for a renewed vigor to continue onward and HE WILL help us.

1 John 1:9
If we acknowledge our sins, he is faithful and
just, to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from
all unrighteousness.
Proverbs 28:13
He that hideth his sins, shall not prosper: but
he that confesseth, and forsaketh them, shall have
mercy.
Romans 3:23 - 26
23 For there is no difference: for all have sinned,
and are deprived of the glory of God,
24 And are justified freely by his grace, through
the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,
25 Whom God hath set forth to be a reconciliation
through faith in his blood to declare his righteousness,
by the forgiveness of the sins that are passed,
26 Through the patience of God, to show at this
time his righteousness, that he might be just, and a
justifier of him which is of the faith of Jesus.

Editor's note - the reader is encouraged to look into the works of John Calvin, who wrote extensively on the Book of Psalms, in so far as he disected each one of them in order, pretty much verse by verse.

GIMEL
17 Be beneficial unto thy servant, that I may live
and keep thy word.
18 Open mine eyes, that I may see the wonders
of thy Law.
19 I am a stranger upon earth: hide not thy commandments
from me. (a)
20 Mine heart breaketh for the desire to thy judgments
always.
21 Thou hast destroyed the proud: cursed are
they that do err from thy commandments. (b)
22 Remove from me shame and contempt: for I
have kept thy testimonies.
23 Princes also did sit, and speak against me: but
thy servant did meditate in thy statutes. (c)
24 Also thy testimonies are my delight, and my
counselors.

(a) Verse 19
Genesis 47:9
And Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The whole time
of my apilgrimage is an hundred and thirty years: few
and evil have the days of my life been, and I have not
attained unto the years of the life of my fathers, in
the days of their pilgrimages.
Genesis 23:4
I am a stranger, and a foreigner among you:
give me a possession of burial with you, that I may
bury my dead out of my sight.
Genesis 17:8
And I will give thee and thy seed after thee the
land, wherein thou art a stranger, even all the land
of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will
be their God.
Psalm 39:12
Hear my prayer, O Lord, and hearken unto my
cry: keep not silence at my tears, for I am a stranger
with thee, and a sojourner as all my fathers.
(b) Verse 21
Psalm 12:3 - 4
3 The Lord cut off all flattering lips, and the
tongue that speaketh proud things:
4 Which have said, With our tongue will we
prevail; our lips are our own; who is Lord over us?
(c) Verse 23
Luke 12:10
fAnd whosoever shall speak a word against the
Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but unto him
that shall blaspheme the holy Ghost, it shall not be
forgiven.
Acts 6:11 - 13
11 Then they suborned men, which said, We have
heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses,
and God.
12 1hus they moved the people and the Elders,
and the Scribes: and running upon him, caught him,
and brought him to the Council,
13 1And set forth false witnesses, which said, This
man ceaseth not to speak blasphemous words against
this holy place, and the Law.
Luke 23:1 - 10
1 Then the whole multitude of them arose, and
led him unto Pilate.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We
have found this man 1perverting the nation, and
forbidding to pay tribute to Caesar, saying, That he
is Christ a King.
3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the
King of the Jews? And he answered him, and said,
Thou sayest it.
4 Then said Pilate to the high Priests, and to the
people, I find no fault in this man.
5 But they were the more fierce, saying, He
moveth the people, teaching throughout all Judea,
beginning at Galilee, even to this place.
6 Now when Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked
whether the man were a Galilean.
7 And when he knew that he was of 1Herod’s
jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, which was also
at Jerusalem in those days.
8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceedingly
glad: for he was desirous to see him of a long
season, because he had heard many things of him,
and trusteth to have seen some sign done by him.
9 Then questioned he with him of many things:
but he answered him nothing.
10 The high Priests also and Scribes stood forth
and accused him vehemently.

Philippians 4:8
Furthermore, brethren, whatsoever things are true,
whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just,
whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things pertain to love,
whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, or if there be any praise, think on these things;

Of Prayer Chapter 2
By John Calvin

To prayer, then, are we indebted for penetrating to those riches which are treasured up for us with our heavenly Father. For there is a kind of intercourse between God and men, by which, having entered the upper sanctuary, they appear before Him and appeal to his promises, that when necessity requires they may learn by experiences that what they believed merely on the authority of his word was not in vain. Accordingly, we see that nothing is set before us as an object of expectation from the Lord which we are not enjoined to ask of Him in prayer, so true it is that prayer digs up those treasures which the Gospel of our Lord discovers to the eye of faith. The necessity and utility of this exercise of prayer no words can sufficiently express. Assuredly it is not without cause our heavenly Father declares that our only safety is in calling upon his name, since by it we invoke the presence of his providence to watch over our interests, of his power to sustain us when weak and almost fainting, of his goodness to receive us into favour, though miserably loaded with sin; in fine, call upon him to manifest himself to us in all his perfections. Hence, admirable peace and tranquillity are given to our consciences; for the straits by which we were pressed being laid before the Lord, we rest fully satisfied with the assurance that none of our evils are unknown to him, and that he is both able and willing to make the best provision for us.
