A Voice in the Wilderness
John the Baptist preparing the way for the coming Messiah
John 1:19 - 28
19 Then this is the record of John, when the
Jews sent Priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask
him, Who art thou? (a)
20 And he confessed and denied not, and said
plainly, I ham not that Christ.
21 And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elijah?
And he said, I am not. Art thou that Prophet?
And he answered, No.
22 Then said they unto him, Who art thou, that
we may give an answer to them that sent us? What
sayest thou of thyself?
23 He said, I am the voice of him that crieth in
the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord,
as said the Prophet Isaiah. (b)
24 Now they which were sent, were of the
Pharisees.
25 And they asked him, and said unto him, Why
baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, neither
Elijah, nor that Prophet?
26 John answered them, saying, I baptize with
water: but there is one among you, whom ye know
not.
27 He it is that cometh after me, which was before
me, whose shoe latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
28 These things were done in Bethabara beyond
Jordan, where John did baptize.

Please note that supplied links are for the King James Translation. I personally prefer and use the Genva Bible translation which predates the KJV by approximately a half century. However, the KJV is itself a good translatoin and is very similar. I would if I could, supply links to the Geneva Bible, but so far the only decent site I have found does not provide individual links per scripture.
